6-10 April 2013, Washington, DC

Professor Frances Balkwill will be speaking at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting 2013 on 6 April, with "The Central Role of the Microenvironment in Initiation and Progression of Tumors and Response to Chemotherapy" as her session title. This educational session will cover highlights of some of the promising work in the rapidly expanding field of the tumor microenvironment.

Professor Balkwill will also chair and speak at a major symposium on Inflammation and Cancer on 10 April. The theme of this session is inflammatory pathways in malignant progression and therapeutic targets that are emerging from this research. The session will present new data on the role of oncogenic mutations in stimulating inflammatory tumor microenvironments and the potential of targeting chemokine receptors or tumor-promoting macrophages in cancer.

Founded in 1907, the AACR is the oldest and largest scientific organisation in the world dedicated to the study of cancer.
