Vitamin A could boost pancreatic cancer chemotherapy

The latest study from the Kocher lab, published recently in the Journal of Pathology, has found that adding high doses of a form of vitamin A could help make chemotherapy more successful in treating pancreatic cancer.

This finding is now being taken forward in the clinical trial, STARPAC, by our Centre for Experimental Cancer Medicine.

London Pancreas Workshop 2016

Professors Hemant Kocher and Nick Lemoine co-organised the sixth biennial London Pancreas Workshop, which took place on Friday 29th April. The conference is billed as a forum for state-of-the-art clinical and basic research in pancreatic cancer.

The event was a huge success, bringing together medics, students, charities, and sponsors. 150 delegates were in attendance, packing out the lecture theatre.

Repurposing viruses to tackle pancreatic cancer drug resistance

A new paper in the journal Oncotarget, led by Dr Gunnel Hallden, shows that viruses can be modified to force cancer cells to die, instead of evading apoptosis.

This also means they work better with existing anti-cancer drugs to destroy pancreatic tumours, a promising beginning to exploring more combination therapies to tackle the problem of drug resistance in pancreatic cancer...

New PCRF grant to support pancreatic cancer research at BCI

The Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund (PCRF) is funding six new research projects, including another here at BCI, with a total of £1 million - bringing the charity’s support for research into the UK’s most lethal cancer to over £8 million.

Included in the 6 funded projects are our Dr Patricia Sancho, and former PhD student, now postdoc at Imperial College, Dr Fieke Froeling...

Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund Tissue Bank at BCI on BBC News

The world’s first national tissue bank for pancreatic cancer has launched in the UK here at BCI, to help push forward research into the cancer with the bleakest prognosis, and was featured on BBC News yesterday.

The resource will allow researchers to answer more questions about this still deadly form of cancer, and hopefully lead to new effective treatments for patients...

Pancreatic Cancer UK grants for five BCI group leaders

New grants from the charity Pancreatic Cancer UK will fund five projects here at BCI that aim to improve treatment options for pancreatic cancer patients.

The grants come from two separate schemes run by the charity and we are extremely grateful to all its supporters who have made these awards possible.
