This unique Joint Programme with the University of Malta accelerates surgical training and improves surgical skills that are essential for building confidence in clinical practice. The course offers the opportunity to develop or extend expertise in the established and rapidly developing areas of laparoscopic surgery.

The course will provide students with a unique opportunity to gain postgraduate training and development in cognitive and motor skills using the surgical simulators. The state-of-the-art Virtual Reality Surgical Simulation Centre allows novice learning and skill mastery to occur in a low-stress, high-feedback environment while protecting the patient from procedural inexperience.

Students will gain a clear understanding of the concept and theories surrounding the issues of research and critical appraisal along with academic writing.

Entry Requirements and How to Apply

Academic Entry Requirements

  • A medical degree; or
  • Successful completion of at least 3 years of MBBS studies (including the equivalent of one year of patient based teaching)*; or
  • Allied health professional (e.g. specialist nurse/dietician/physiologist) with a science based degree awarded with 2:1 or above (or international equivalent)

English Language Requirements

Applicants for whom English is not a first language will also require a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 (with 6.0 in writing) or equivalent, unless their undergraduate degree was studied in, and awarded by, an English speaking country. £13,700 (Home/EU students)
£25,700 (Overseas students)


Due to receiving large volumes of successful applications, it is our department policy to request a deposit of £2000 from overseas students and £1000 from home/EU students in order to secure your place on the course, this will be payable on acceptance of an offer.
