SUMMARY:Impact of Covid-19 on Surgical Education - Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Prospective students interested in applying for the MSc Surgical programmes and surgeons in training are invited to attend. \nAbout This Event\nHow will the landscape for digital health and medical education look post-COVID-19? \nDigital health is disrupting healthcare and education\, as a college or a training provider working on digital education\, how can you engage in this world for providing technical & non-technical skills training remotely. \nIn October 2005 Barts Cancer Institute\, Queen Mary University of London launched the world’s first course in acquiring surgical skills by virtual reality simulation to “Globalise & Fast-Track Surgical Training” \nDuring this conversation with Prof Bijendra Patel\, we will cover digital education and innovation as a tool to: \n\nTechnology enhanced learning for democratisation of surgical education\nImprove both technical skills and decision making in surgery remotely\nExpand access to surgical skills training by simulation globally\nIncrease peer to peer self-directed learning\nIncrease student engagement by using immersive platforms for higher knowledge retention and thus improve efficacy and shorten your learning curve\nAddress access to education and higher education deficit in surgery\nPrevent the surgical education system collapse during current and future crises\n\nSurvey: Surgical training during COVID\nThe COVID-19 outbreak had a significant impact on surgical training. This survey aims to quantify this and help find ways to overcome this. Thank you for taking the time to complete this. \nAsk a question now to have it answered during the panel discussion.\n	Webinar Agenda (please note\, all times are is BST):\n\n16:00 Introduction: Impact of Covid-19 on Surgical Education – A New Approach for Changing Times – Speaker Prof Bijendra Patel\n16:20 Cholecystectomy Master Class\n\nUndergraduate & Residents – Speaker TBC\n\nApplied Anatomy & Pathology\nManagement of Gall stone disease – Current guidelines\n\n\nLaparoscopic Cholecystectomy Video Presentation – Speaker Prof Bijendra Patel\n\nStandard case – how to do it\nComplex case – how not to do it\n\n\n\n\nPanel Discussion. Prof Bijendra Patel & Prof Shafi Ahmed \n17:00 Interactive – “Hands on Laparoscopic Skills Training On-line” – First Laparoscopic Surgery Master Class. (See details below on preparation before the webinar if you want to take part) Demonstrator Prof Bijendra Patel\n\n\n\nLaparoscopic Extracorporeal Knot Tying & Suturing.\n\nWebinar 6th May Making Endoloop for tying appendix base in Appendicectomy\nWebinar 3th June Extracorporeal Tying of a tubular structure eg: Cystic Duct or Cystic Artery\nWebinar 1st July Extracorporeal Suturing eg: for use in fundoplication or bowel anastomosis.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	Participant Instruction for Online Laparoscopic Skills Training\n\nWatch the video and animation on our YouTube channel to familiarise\nPractice using a 1 meter long string or a rope around an assistant’s finger or around any fixed object such as leg of a table or chair.\nFor making endoloop using 75cm length of string only (Vicryl 2.0 suture material can be used  – cut the needle off)\n\n To join the webinar \n Please click this Zoom link to join the webinar\nPassword: 307827\nHave questions for our speakers? FAIS \nProf Bijendra Patel is a surgeon and a world leader in integrating technology-enhanced learning for medical education. In October 2005\, he pioneered this concept by creating the world’s first Master’s course in acquiring surgical skills by virtual reality simulation (MSc Surgical Skills and Sciences) at the Barts Cancer Institute\, Queen Mary University of London to “Globalise And Fast-Track Surgical Training” \nHe has also pioneered the concept of “Hands-on Laparoscopic Surgical Training On-line” for globalisation of surgical education by launching world’s first immersive distance learning Master’s course in 2018 based on competency-based training model and surgical simulation using multimedia platform including VR\, eLearning\, Mobile phone and Portable box trainer. \nHe is also founder president of the Society of Surgical Simulation and also the founder and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Surgical Simulation\, the first academic journal dedicated to publishing research in the fields of surgical simulation.
