SUMMARY:Thursday Seminar Series - 10x Genomics
DESCRIPTION:As part of the BCI’s Seminar Series\, we are pleased to welcomeStephen Hague and James Hargreaves from 10x Genomics to present at the BCI on Thursday 14th February. \nThe seminar is titled: ‘10X Genomics\, recent advances in Single Cell Genomics’ \n“The Chromium Single Cell Gene Expression Solution provides a comprehensive\, scalable solution for cell characterization and gene expression profiling of hundreds to tens of thousands of cells. Our latest improvements allow you to detect even more unique transcripts per cell and with the addition of Feature Barcoding technology\, you can get a more complete molecular readout cell by cell—identify cell-specific CRISPR-mediated perturbations or simultaneously measure gene and cell surface protein expression in the same cell\, with virtually unlimited possibilities for the additional feature types. \nAdditionally\, 10X Genomics provides solutions to measure Chromatin accessibility (ATAC)\, 5’ Gene expression\, Single Cell immune profiling and Single Cell Copy number variation. \n10X Genomics solutions have been used in over 400 peer reviewed publications. Please come along to our Seminar to find out more about this novel technology and recent advances.” \nFor more information about 10x Genomics\, please click here. \nThe seminar will be held in the Lister and Young Seminar Room\, 12.30pm – 13.30pm. \nIf you would like to arrange to talk with Stephen or James\, please contact Hemant Kocher (h.kocher@qmul.ac.uk).

SUMMARY:Medicine at the Crick
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite you and any interested colleagues to attend our inaugural ‘Medicine at the Crick’ event\, entitled “Gene and Gene-Editing Therapy: A new challenge and opportunity in Clinical Medicine”\, to be held on Thursday 28 June 2018\, 2.30pm-7pm\, at the Francis Crick Institute\, London. \nOur new ‘Medicine at the Crick‘ event series aims to showcase major advances in biomedical science and raise awareness of the medical implications of major scientific advances amongst the Crick and wider UK biomedical community. \nThe format is a series of short talks\, followed by a keynote lecture and a panel discussion. We chose the theme of gene therapy and gene editing to launch the series. The event will be led by Professor Robin Lovell-Badge from the Crick and the keynote lecture will be given by Professor Matthew Porteus from Stanford University. Other speakers and panellists include Dr Claire Booth (UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health)\, Professor Sarah Tabrizi (UCL Institute of Neurology)\, Dr Sarah Chan (University of Edinburgh) and Nick Meade (Genetic Alliance UK). \nFor full information on the programme\, and to order your free tickets for the event\, please visit our Medicine at the Crick webpages or contact us on medicine-at-crick@crick.ac.uk

SUMMARY:‘Immune cell metabolism in health and disease’
DESCRIPTION:The British Society for Immunology’s London Immunology Group is pleased to present ‘Immune cell metabolism in health and disease‘ taking place on Wednesday 30 May 2018 at Imperial College London\, South Kensington Campus\, 14.00 – 18.00pm. \nImmunometabolism is an emerging field that investigates how the metabolic processes of immune cells affect their roles in disease. Interest in this field is gaining momentum due to the realisation that changes in how cells utilise energy underlies many inflammatory responses\, and that manipulating cellular metabolism can beneficially enhance or reduce inflammation. During this half day meeting\, we will discuss how the inflammatory environment and cellular metabolism are integrated to regulate immune cell function. It is anticipated this meeting will be of broad interest to researchers working in the fields of immunology and/or metabolism and those interested in therapeutic approaches which target metabolic processes. \nFor more information and registration\, please click here
