BCI STARS 2015

Twenty-five school students aged 16-17 (year 12) joined us in July, having just completed their AS levels, to take part in the BCI STARS course - a one-week intensive practical course in general research laboratory skills.

STARS 2015 was a huge success aided in no small way by an award of £1000 from the Biochemical Society...

On Friday 21st March, the winners of the Spring 2014 I'm A Scientist, Get Me Out Of Here! competition were announced. Centre for Molecular Oncology researcher Dr John Foster emerged as winner in the Organs Zone - congratulations!

BCI STARS team invited to Downing Street

Last year the BCI ran our first Science Training for Aspiring Research Scientists (STARS) course, in which sixth form students from local schools were invited to spend a week in our teaching laboratory to learn about cancer research techniques with our PhD student and postdoc facilitators.

In recognition of their hard work and success in running the first BCI STARS programme, Dr John Marshall and his PhD student Caroline Sproat were invited to 11 Downing Street...

STARS 2013

Our first Science Training for Aspiring Research Scientists (STARS) course ran from 16th-20th September. We invited students from London schools to come to Barts Cancer Institute and experience, first-hand, experimental research science.

The aim of this course was two-fold. Firstly, to inspire and enthuse pupils keen to learn more about science and encourage them to continue to Higher Education, through allowing them to perform modern cell and molecular biology experiments...
