We’re part of Cancer Grand Challenges, a global funding initiative supporting large-scale collaborations to tackle the toughest problems in cancer.
Cancer Grand Challenges, co-founded by Cancer Research UK and the US National Cancer Institute, funds international teams to address complex questions that cannot be solved by individual labs. With over $600 million invested, it is one of the most prestigious and ambitious programmes in cancer research.
Researchers at Barts Cancer Institute, Queen Mary University of London, contribute to multiple funded teams. This includes the eDyNAmiC team, investigating extrachromosomal DNA, as well as earlier initiatives Rosetta, which mapped tumour metabolism in unprecedented detail, and STORMing Cancer, which explored how chronic inflammation drives disease.
Participation in Cancer Grand Challenges highlights BCI’s role within a global network of leading institutions, contributing expertise in computational biology, tumour biology and translational research.
By enabling collaboration at scale, the programme is generating new insights that could inform future approaches to prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
