The Cancer Research UK City of London Centre is a biotherapeutics centre of excellence, accelerating new cancer treatments from discovery to the clinic.
The Cancer Research UK City of London (CoL) Centre is a world-class hub for cancer biotherapeutics. It brings together researchers from four of the central London Cancer Research UK Centres: Queen Mary University of London (including Barts Cancer Institute and Wolfson Institute of Population Health), University College London, King’s College London and The Francis Crick Institute.
This unique interdisciplinary and collaborative network is generating novel innovative biological therapies, diagnostics and stratification strategies in addition to providing a clinical and translational pipeline for cancer discovery science. As part of this partnership, at the BCI, we are focusing on developing and maximising the impact of biological therapies, and using our expertise in cancer evolution and tumour heterogeneity to improve targeting of biotherapies.
The partnership also includes the Cancer Research UK City of London Radiation Research Centre, part of the RadNet network, which focuses on improving radiotherapy. Research spans radiation biology, drug combinations and clinical trials, with the aim of making treatment more precise and effective.
Training the next generation of cancer researchers
A key priority of the CRUK City of London Centre is to train, mentor and equip the next generation of basic and physician scientists with multi-disciplinary biotherapeutics skills. The Centre will sponsor multi-disciplinary PhD studentships and clinical fellowships that fall within its research strategy with particular emphasis on research placements/training courses to fully utilise the expertise between the Centre partners.
